UPBA was founded by National Animal Genetic Resources Center and Data Bank in conjunction with International Livestock Research Institute and BOKU (Initially funded by Austrian Development Agency).
The National Animal Genetic Resources Center and Data Bank (NAGRC&DB) was established by Animal Breeding Act 2001, under the ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) with a mandate to oversee and spear head animal breeding activities in the country. NAGRC &DB has; imported different pig breeds (Landrace, Large white cambrough and different boar lines), initiated and fostered formation of pig breeders association in an endeavor to improve pig genetics in the country.
